🎅 Why Preschool Children Deserve More Than a Santa Visit:

The Santa Mark Preschool Experience

For a preschool child, Christmas is not just a date on the calendar.

It is wonder.

It is imagination.

It is the excitement of hearing a story, seeing Santa walk through the door, wondering whether the man in the red suit really knows their name—and, sometimes, simply finding the courage to walk up and say hello.

That is why a Santa visit to a preschool should be more than a quick appearance and a line of children waiting for a photograph.

It should be an experience.

As Santa Mark, I believe preschool children deserve a Santa who understands that.

I have been portraying Santa Claus since 1975, beginning with visits to children in hospitals and community events. Today, I bring that same sense of purpose, warmth and responsibility to preschools, schools, churches, daycare centers and holiday events throughout California’s South Bay and Central Coast.

And for me, being Santa is about more than putting on the red suit.

🎄 A Preschool Santa Should Understand Children

Preschool children are wonderfully unpredictable.

One child may run across the room shouting, “Santa!”

Another may hide behind a teacher.

One may have a very detailed Christmas wish list.

Another may simply stare at Santa with enormous eyes.

And that’s okay.

A professional Santa should never make a child feel pressured to perform.

Sometimes the most meaningful Santa moment is the child who doesn’t want to sit on Santa’s lap—but eventually feels comfortable enough to stand beside him.

That requires patience.

It requires listening.

It requires paying attention to body language.

Most importantly, it requires remembering that the child—not the photograph—is the priority.

Those principles are at the heart of how I approach every Santa appearance.

I’ve written more about this in my article, The Responsibility of Portraying Santa Claus.

Because when a child looks at Santa, they aren’t thinking about the person underneath the beard.

For that moment, they see Santa.

That is a responsibility I take seriously.

❤️ What Makes a Santa Mark Preschool Visit Different?

When I visit a preschool, my goal isn’t simply to “show up as Santa.”

My goal is to create a warm, age-appropriate Christmas experience that teachers, children and parents will remember.

A Santa Mark preschool visit can include:

  • 🎅 A professional Real Beard Santa
  • 📖 Interactive Christmas storytelling
  • 🎄 Christmas songs and conversation
  • 🎁 Age-appropriate interaction with preschoolers
  • 📸 Time for classroom photographs
  • ❤️ Gentle interaction for shy or hesitant children
  • 🎅 Questions and answers with Santa
  • ✨ Opportunities for children to share their Christmas wishes
  • 🙏 Optional Christian Christmas storytelling for faith-based preschools and Christian schools

The experience can be tailored to the school’s schedule, classroom structure and the ages of the children.

For a preschool, that flexibility matters.

📖 Storytime With Santa: More Than Just a Photo Opportunity

One of my favorite ways to visit a preschool is through Storytime with Santa.

Instead of simply greeting the children and posing for photographs, Santa gathers the children together and becomes part of a shared Christmas story.

The room gets quieter.

Little faces turn toward Santa.

Imaginations begin to work.

And suddenly, Santa isn’t simply someone standing in a red suit.

He’s telling a story.

He’s listening.

He’s encouraging the children to participate.

He’s creating a moment the children can experience together.

I’ve written more about this approach in Storytime with Santa in the South Bay and Central Coast: A Magical & Meaningful Holiday Experience.

For preschool directors looking for something more meaningful than a traditional Santa photo opportunity, Storytime with Santa can be a wonderful addition to a holiday program.

✝️ A Christian Santa With a Heart for the Meaning of Christmas

I am also a Christian Santa.

For schools, churches and preschools that want to incorporate the Christian meaning of Christmas into their celebration, I can offer an appropriate Christ-centered Christmas storytime as part of the experience.

One of my favorite books for this is Dear Maggie: A Letter From Santa.

The goal isn’t to turn a preschool Santa visit into a sermon.

It is to create an age-appropriate opportunity to talk about kindness, giving, love, generosity, hope and the deeper meaning of Christmas.

For Christian preschools and churches, that can be especially meaningful.

For other schools, I can provide a traditional Christmas experience that focuses on wonder, generosity, kindness and the magic of the season.

The important thing is to respect the character of the school and the families it serves.

🎅 Trained to Take Santa Seriously

Santa Mark doesn’t just put on a Santa Suit – He embodies Santa Claus

I am a graduate of the Worldwide Santa Claus Network (WWSCN) Santa School, an organization dedicated to helping Santa Claus performers develop the skills needed to portray Santa professionally and authentically.

That training reinforces something I have learned throughout my years as Santa:

Santa should be child-centered.

The best Santa experiences are built around listening, patience, compassion, authenticity, professionalism and respect.

Those values fit naturally with the way I approach a preschool visit.

Every child deserves to feel welcomed.

Every child deserves to be treated with dignity.

Every child deserves a Santa who understands that children are not props for photographs.

They are the reason Santa is there.

🌟 Santa Mark Brings the “Santa Heart”

There is a phrase professional Santas sometimes use: the Santa Heart.

I think it describes the role beautifully.

The Santa Heart means slowing down.

It means listening to a child who has something important to say.

It means noticing the child who is nervous.

It means remembering that a preschooler’s five-minute conversation may be one of the most important five minutes of their Christmas.

It means leaving every child feeling a little more loved, a little more special and a little more excited about Christmas.

That is the kind of Santa I strive to be.

❤️ Why Book Your Preschool Santa Early?

December is a very short Santa season.

There are only so many mornings and afternoons available—and the weekday dates that work particularly well for preschools can disappear quickly.

That is especially true for the first few weeks of December.

If your preschool is considering bringing in Santa this year, now is the time to start the conversation.

You don’t need to have every detail figured out.

Tell me your approximate date, number of children, age groups and what you have in mind.

I’ll help you create an experience that makes sense for your school.

🎅 Bring Santa Mark to Your Preschool

A preschool Santa visit should leave children with more than a photograph.

It should leave them with a memory.

A story.

A smile.

A moment of wonder.

Perhaps even a little more understanding of what Christmas is really about.

That’s what I hope to bring when I walk through your preschool door.

I’m Santa Mark—a Real Beard Santa, portraying Santa since 1975, a graduate of WWSCN Santa School, and a Christian who believes that being Santa is both a privilege and a responsibility.

If you’re looking for a professional Santa for your preschool, daycare, Christian school or early childhood program in California, I’d love to talk with you.
